LIFE OF N.Z. MEN

IN GERMAN PRISON CAMP.,

CARTOONIST’S VERSION. LONDON, May 1. Three cartoons bv Warrant Officer James Welch, of Masterton, which appeared in the Stalag 385 type-writ-ten newspaper “The Spectator” last February have been reproduced by the “Daily Express” iunder the heading "A Lively Spectator arrives from Germany.” The first with the caption, “Another Batch arrives from Stalag 8B,” shows prisoners arriving with a sprinkling of black demons labelled “Rumour” between them. The second, with the caption “Can’t Understand Why They Haven’t Been Called Up”, shows two harnessed racehorses commenting on Stalag 383 bookmakers and St. Leger runners. The third shows a prisoner with large rabbit-ears being closely inspected by a German sentry in a hole on the wrong side of the barbed wire and saying “Honestly sentry I really am a rabbit!” . :
