PRESS CENSORSHIP

AUSTRALIAN COMMITTEE CANBERRA, May 2,

His withdrawal from the Parliamentary Committee on the censorship has been announced by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Forde) who was appointed chairman of the committee before the Prime Minister left for overseas. The Attorney-General (Dr Evatt) will replace Mr Forde as chairman. Announcing his withdrawal, Mi’ Forde said he considered it imperative that the whole matter of the censorship be cleared up at the earliest possible moment, after the Courts had disposed of the current litigation. If he remained a committee member, his other exacting duties would entail delays in holding meetings of the committee.
