The Wingatui is to load , for Wellington. She is expected to return next Saturday to again load for return The Kiwitea from Auckland, is to load for Auckland. The Gabriella is expected from Gisborne on Thursday to load for New Plymouth. The Kaimiro is due from Auckland on Thursday to load for Auckland and Portland.

Sgt. Chris. Stewart, formerly o; Denniston, and recently returned from overseas service, is visiting Westport. The postwomen’s collection towards the patriotic funds has brought in £127 so far. There are yet several envelopes not collected and these will be gathered uo on Tuesday. It is expected that the sum already collected will be considerably increased. The annual chrysanthemum show of the Methodist Church will take place next Thursdav and Friday, and entries close on Tuesday. The following donations have been received bv the Patriotic Committee. For 1944 appeal, Granitv Patriotic Committee £3O; for Soldiers’ Parcels Mrs. Masterson, Senr., Granity 6s; Mr and Mrs. P. Morgan 10s; Anonymous, Fairdown, 12s. A public meeting to discuss the formation of a nursery play centre in Westport was held in the Town Hall. There was a good attendance of women and the Mayoress (Mrs. J. M. Robertson) presided. Mrs. M. M. Dunningham gave a detailed outline of the scheme. Plav centres were functioning in other towns and one was recentlv established in Runanga. A committee consisting of Mesdames Richards, Greenland, Farrell and Robertson was formed. It was dec.aed that each nerson present appi’oacn three mothers of children and obtain their opinion. If twenty were enrolled and a supervisor is found, a playcentre could commence at once, it was decided to call a further meeting on Friday. Mav 12, at. 7 p.m.
