[Our Own Correspondent!. REEFTON, Aprli 30. At the monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council, the chairman (Cr. W. Hempseeu) presided over the following: Councillors Clayton, Mirfin, Watson, Archer, O’Regan, Duff, Coghlan, Blackadder. . Messrs L. E. Morgan, I. Patterson and Son, and Pitt O’Moore, wrote notifying sales of property.' and asking for amendment to rolls.—Rolls to be , amended. Mr. V. W. Alborn wrote notifying that a heavy truck would Ibe off the road for two months and asking for a refund .of part of heavy traffic fees.—Granted. The Grey Harbour Boara wrote stating that members, as provided by the Act, I would retire next month and it would be necessary for the Council to arI range for the election wf one memIber to represent the County. The Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, wrote giving an analysis of water taken from a tap at the Fire Station. The Town Clerk, Westport, forwarded a copy of a letter received from the Department of Health, Christchurch, and reply thereto regarding the appointment of InspectorKnight as an officer under the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908. Cr. Archer moved, and Cr. Clayton seconded that the Department be asked why the Inspector could not'carry out the work. Hon. C. F. Skinner wrote stating that the Minister of Works had declined the Council’s request for assistance in putting in order Pascoe’s Road, Rotokohu. The Director of Housing Construction wrote forwarding plans for houses to be build on the Moore property. The Clerk reported that' the plans had been approved and forwarded. The Minister of Public Works (Mr. Semple) advised .that on the return of the plans tenders would be called for the buildings. It was decided to write to the Minister of Housing urging that an immediate start be made with the work and that the Department be asked to build 20 houses in all. Hon. R. Semple wrote stating that a report on facilities at Maruia Hot Springs was under consideration by the Government. Hon. C. F. Skinner forwarded a report concerning suggested improvements at Maruia' Hot Springs. Cr. Archer moved, and Cr. Clayton seconded that Mr. Skinner be asked to request the Ministei- of Internal Affairs and a representative of the Tourist Department to meet representatives of the West Coast, Nelson and Buller local bodies at Maruia, with a view to improving conditions at the Springs.—Carried. The District Engineer, Public Works Department. Greymouth, wrote stating that a dangerous place on the Reefton—Lewis Pass Main Highway was to be fenced off and notices erected until labour was available to effect repairs. • It was decided to ask the Department to give urgent attention to the road at the seven mile peg. The District Engineer wrote re sealing the road between Reefton and Black's Point. Cr. Archer moved that the Highways Board be asked to give this work priority.-—Carried. The Minister of Mines ’wrote, stating that the request for a grant of £lOO for a road to Eklund and Party’s open cut mine was being reported on. I. Patterson and S'on wrote asking for assistance for the construction of a road to W. McGregor’s mine on a coal lease held by W. J. Morris. It was aeirded to ask the engineer to report on the proposed road. I. Patterson and Son, forwarded a copy of an application by the Burnwell Coal Company for a coal lease crossing the --County water race.—Resolved that no objection be offered provided that the Council’s race was protected. Mr. L. E. Morgan on behalf of N. Clarke, forwarded application for coal lease and sketcn plan showing the roaci comprised in the application.—Resolved that no objection be made. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Nelson, wrote re the the mutter of getting consent of Messrs S. W. and R. S. Jameson for a road through Lockmgton’s holding at Waitahu. J. Kilkenny, Ltd., Westport, forwarded particulars of trucks for sale. —Received, the engineer to inspect truck of local resident with a view to purchase. Mrs. E. J. Creighton wrote confirming a verbal assurance given to Mr. W. Bla'ckadder to dedicate land free of charge giving road access to her property. Mr. W. V. Alborn applied for permission to lav a tramline from the Cronadun Station on the left side of Cronadun —Capleston road to intersection with Blair’s Road and otlmr points to connect with his coal mine.--Rererred to engineer. Inspector Knight forwarded report for month of March. Mr W H. Betts wrote regarding repairs to the suspension bridge at Oweka, asking for payment of £8 for boat provioed by him. Mrs. M. A.'Betts' wrote asking that marble tablets on the memorial be cleaned. Hon. C. F. Skinner wrote re application for grant of £4OO for Rainy Creek —Interman Road stating that the Minister of Works was unable to give the Council assistance in the matter. The Commissioner of Supply wrote re application for purchase of a 3-ton truck, stating that it was hoped to make a number available shortly and that the procedure would be advised at a later date. The District Engineer Public Works Department wrote reporting on river eros'.on at Andrew’s Bridge, and Rotokohu. Mr. T. H. Lee, for the Royal Coal Syndicate, reported on work done on Rainy Creek —Interman Road and asked for a progress payment out of a grant made by the Mines Department.—Resolved that a progress payment be made after the work had been recommended by the engineer. Mr. M. T. Waddell wrote re the Creek dividing his property from that of his father, asking permission to extend the drain from the front to half way down his property and advising that he would supply the material and do the work. It was decided to grant the request. Mr. J. B. McWyn wrote asking that the drain be cleaned outside his property. —Engineer to carry out work. The Minister of Railways wrote re lifting sidings at Maitai, Waitahu. Oweka, and .Mai Mai, advising that the Matai siding was to be closed. On the motion of Cr. Archer and Cr. Clayton it was decided that the County lorries be not made available to private users. On the motion of Crs. Archer and O’Regan it was decided that £2O be granted towards the provisoin of an ambulance for the district and that a subscription list be opened at the Council for funds. On the motion of Crs. Duff and Watson it was decided to ask the Health Department to take immediate steps to provide diphtheria immunisation fon children in Reefton and district.
