MAN ROBBED OF £1000

MELBOURNE. Dec. 24. The manager of Associated Tobacco Company of Sydney, Thomas Stanley Hammond, was battered with an iron bar at Dandenong and robbed of £l,OOO. Hammond, who is staying at a Melbourne hotel, was hailed by two men near Belgrave, and he took them into his car. When he reached the township he bought breakfast for the men and paid for them to have shaves. At Ferntree Gully he entertained his passengers with refreshments. , , -x xU At Dandenong, Hammond left the men in his car while he completed a business transaction. When he returned to his car he was attacked by the men with an iron bar. Hammond was thrown to the ground, and the men' rifled his pockets. From inside his waistcoat they took £l,OOO in £lOO and £5O notes.
