QUARRYING COAL
AUCKLAND, J'an. 10. The development of the quarrying method of winning coal to increase production in the Dominion is foreshadowed by the Minister of Mmes, the Hon. P. C. Webb. During his recent visit to Auckland Mr. Webb said everything; possible is to be done this year to increase production further. ’ Expert opinion supported the quarrying method of obtaining coal where the stripping of the top material was not great, as much of the work could be done with mechanical appliances and without the aid or experienced miners. A report _ on suitable locations had been obtained from a geologist. Sites had been selected in the Waikato area and some preliminary drilling would be undertaken near Huntly next week.
