WAR ITEMS
LONDON, December 18. Goebbels yesterday made his frankest admission yet that Germany might lose the war. He said: “Eyen if Britain wins the war in the military sphere, she will have lost in the political sphere. Britain has not the man power, ships nor money. She is dependent on the mercy .of her Allies. She has sold herself for better or for worse, and the war is bringing the slow disintegration of the British Empire.” The Associated Press of America recalled Anti- Franco elements in Spain, despites three failures, are persisting in theii’ efforts to overthrow the dictatorship. The most active group so far has been proMonarcharist, but informed quarters in Washington believe that the Monarchists have delayed too long and that the most likely development is an army coup d’etat. >Manv Spaniards feel that Spain is out of step with European politics. They are convinced that the United Nations will be victorious and therefore would like to improve their prospective position at the peace table and in post-war trade.
