REEFTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent!. REEFTON, Dec. 3.

Mr. P. J. O’Regan left yesterday for Westport, en route to Wellington, where he enters hospital to undergo an operation.

A meeting of Labour supporters in the Maruia district was held recently when it was decided to form a branch of the N.Z. Labour Party. Mr. J. Creighton was elected President, and Mr. M. G. Poulter secretary. A strong committee was set up to further the interests of the Party. A picnic was held by the newly formed branch at Station Creek. At a meeting of the Reefton Businessmen’s Association to decide upon the Christmas and New Year holidays, Mr. C. McElwee occupied the chair. In addition to the award holidays of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at Christmas, it was decided to observe the Tuesday also as a holiday. this being the day of the combined Westport and Re.efton Trotting Club’s meeting at Westport. Similar closing days will'be observed for the New Year holidays. Owing to shortage of staffs, these holidays will serve the in the place of annual holidays in many cases. The secretary was instructed to advertise the Association’s decision.
