The Holmlea left yesterday morning for Nelson and is due back o load for Picton. The Wingatui is ciue from Wellington to-day and loads and returns to Wellington. • The Gabriella is due from Port Ahurin to-morrow and loads for Napier. The Totara loads on Saturday for Tokomaru Bay. Mr. S. R. Whale, optician, of Christchurch, is vis.ting Westport. Mrs. Claude Mullins, Whangarei, accompanied by her daughter, arrived on a visit to relatives in this district. Mr. J. Stockley, who has been visiting friends here left on return to the North Islanld yesterday. Rev. Morgan and O. C. Morris. The Hag at the railway station was flown at half-mast yesterday as a tribute to the late Phil Sexton, a railway servant, whose death occurred on Wednesday. The Westport District Executive Committee of the Children’s Health Camp held a meeting this week to consider ways and means of augumenting the committee’s funds for me purpose of providing accommonation at me Nelson Health Camp for children of the Buller district. Last January, 20 children from the Buller district spent six weeks at the camp, and. returned much improved in general health. As the sale of health stamps does not bring in sufficient revenue, the committee dec.ded to hold a street day collection on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Principal of the Westport Technical High School offered to provide a number of collectors, and 1 members of the Junior Red Cross will also assist. The public are earnestly requested to subscribe and so enaole children of the Buller district requiring health camp treatment to enjoy a few' weeks at the Nelson Health Camp in January next. Total local sales of health stamps since October amount to £35.

For the four-weekly period ending October 16, 5198 tons of coal were railed to the East Coast through the Buller Gorge as compared with 5713 tons for the previous month. At a meeting of Buller Hospital Comforts Committee held last evening, Miss Patterson and Mrs. Robertson reported that some of the required amenities could not be procured locally and it was decided to obtain quotations for leather upholstered furnishings from outside firms. The Chairman and Secretary are lo report to the next meeting resarding two wireless sets, writing desks and to obtain quotes for the necessary floor coverings. Miss Patterson and the Secretary- are to procure whatever games and various other incidentals are required and Miss Patterson was authorised to procure a suitable mirror for the bathroom in the women’s ward. In the men’s convalescent room, a bookshelf ; s to be constructed and £25 will be allowed annually to purchase various period.cals and magazines. The suggested allocation of £lO for stationery requisites was held until next meeting.
