Two of them he spent at Marshal Chiang Kai Shek’s country bungalow, conferring with the Generalissimo, says Reuter’s Chungking correspondent For the remainder of the time - Lord Mountbatten had talks with General Stilwell and British and Chinese Army Chiefs. A close friendship sprang up between Lord Mountbatten and General Stilwell, each being pleased that the other favoured hardhitting strategy. »
