The patrol immediately attacked. A somewhat confused action followed, in which one enemy trawler was set heavily on fire. Other enemy ships, including the supply ship, sustained, a large number of hits, with the result that the enemy abandoned his intention of proceeding- up we Channel. and turned back and sought shelter in harbour. One of our motorboats was heavily hit and set on fire, and must be considered to be lost. The remainder of our patrol safely returned to the base.
Berlin radio announced that Captain. Wolfgang Kaden, leader of a flottilla of submarine chasers, was killed when fighting against the British. Some of his crew were also lost.
