R.A.F. ATTACKS

In France and Germany LONDON. July 21. Many squadrons of fighters made low-level attacks on France and, Belgium on Tuesday evening. Bombers attacked targets in North-west Germany. Three fighters are missing. The Air Ministry states that over Northern France on Monday afternoon many squadrons (nearly 200) of Spitfires made low-level attacks on a large number of enemy objectives. One British fighter is missing. It was brought down bv an obstruction. Three Spitfires which met considerable flak, but remained undamaged, gunned two gooas engines, set fire to two wagons, attacked warehouses, radio stations, transformei’ station, gunned a troop-oc-cupied house, soldiers on an aerodrome near Saint Valery; also a “watertower,” gunposts, shelters and huts were attacked. They bombed a factory in Dieppe, and set fire to a building hidden in a wood. A bomber returning from Bremen, engaged five fighters and shot down three of them. Three fighters attacked and were shot down. One turret in the bomber was jammed, and one gun in another turret was out of action, when another two fighters came in to the attack, but the bomber crew fought them off and brought their machine home, where they crash-landed. For this exploit, all six members of the crew nave been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal.

Finucane’s home town, has decided to open a memorial fund (which Finucane’s parents wish to pav for a new accident casualty wins, at the Royal Hospital, Richmond.
