KUMARA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). Mr and Mrs Sam Yde, of Turiwhate have received cabled advice that their son Trevor was fatally injured in an aircraft accident in England. He left Kumara about a year ago to complete his aircraft training in Canada after which lie was sent to England. He was of quiet manner and greatly respected by all, who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. Mr and Mrs Yde will have the sympathy of man.v friends throughout Westland. Mr and Mrs J. Burridge, who were recently married in Christchurch, returned to Kumara on Saturday and were welcomed by many friends. They will in future reside in Kumara.
It is understood that the Fitzgerald family, who have lived at Wainihinihi for well over half a century are retiring, and will live in Greymouth and Hokitika. Mr Gerhard Fitzgerald is taking over the Wainihinihi property from his relatives. A break has occurred in the tunnel at Dillmanstown which takes water to the generating station of ■(Westland iPower ’Ltd. A number of the company’s workmen are hastening to repair the damage. Local light and power is not affected.
Anzac Day in Kumara was beautifully fine. At 10 a.m. the school children assembled and joined the Returned Soldiers, Home Guard, Women’s Auxiliary and St. John Ambulance at the post office and marched to the Memorial Hall where aopropriate speeches were made by Mi' A. 18. Spiers (Mayor), Rev. Fr. Healy, Mr Bassett (R.S.A.), Mr Rose (St. John Ambulance) and Mr Thwaites (Red Cross). Wreaths were placed on the Cenotaph in front of the hall.
