PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE
GREYMOUTH MEETINIG. A meeting of the Greymouth Patriotic Committee was held last evening, there being present the Mayor, Mr F A. Kitchingham (chairman), Rev. A. Horwell, Messrs G. G. M. Mitchell, P. J. McLean, O. McLean, K. Balchin, J. W. Greenslade, F. M. Baillie, and the secretary GW. H. Parfitt). . Rev. A. D. Horweii, who had oeea appointed to the Committee by the Combined Churches’ Association m place of the Rev. A. Bensley, W(: lS welcomed by the Mayor. A bulletin was received from the Patriotic Fund Board, and a letter from the Magazine guard, thanking the Committee for Christmas gifts, was also received. . . The Westland Provincial Patriotic Council wrote advising that ail iocal soldiers in Christchurch would be entertained at the Welcome Club on the evening of March 7, and an invitation was extended to all. members of the Committe who happened to be in Christchurch at the time. The National Patriotic Fund Board wrote stating that the extension ot the war in the Pacific meant a larger expenditure of patriotic funds, for. as the troops in Fiji had been increased, the Board would need to expend approximately £57,000 which was not. budgeted for. It was stated that, as the present appeal’ for funds was not completely successful, something would have to be done, and it was suggested that a public meeting be called,'; at which
the facts would be placed before the public. A{ letter from a soldier overseas and a mother at Taihape thanking the Committee for parcels received, and expressing appreciation of the Committee’s efforts were received.
