BRUNNER NOTES

(Our Own correspondent.) Apparently some residents of Brunner are not yet aware that lighting restrictions apply in this district. Briefly the conditions are that all rooms lighted at night shall have the blinds drawn, or else suitable screens placed over windows, glass doors, fanlights, etc. The existing blinds will do, no matter what the colour is. At least one room must be prepared with a proper black-out, so that in the event of an emergency the light can be left on in this room without being at all visible from outside. Three alarm gongs have been placed in the vicinity of the telephone holders who are to receive emergency messages. The gongs are at Gutberlet’s corner, Taylorville, Hill’s Store, Dobson, and at Stillwater. At the annual meeting of the Brunner Brass Band, held in Taylorville school, the balance sheet was received. The oflicers elected for the next 12 months are: Patron, Mr B. C. Low; President, Mr J. McNeish; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Ford, F. Breeze t R. Fordham, G. Nimmo, W. Fisher,; E. Gamble, J. Smeaton, J. Baird, G. Dixon, J. Tayler, B. Boustridge, A. G. Quinn, F. Lockington, M. Bennie, . Leitch and Mrs Rostern; conductor, Mr T. Miller; deputy conductor, Mr M. P. Galway; drum major, Mr T. McGuinness; band sergeant, Mr C. Reid, corporal, Mr W. Coates, lance-corporal, Mr G. Banks, secretary-treasurer, Mr T. Miller; librarians, Messrs R. Kerr and J. Harper; official accompanist, Miss Watson; committee, Messrs J. McNeish, C. Reid, F .Fletcher, W. Gutberlet, T. Morgan, R. Buckman and W. Coates. Prior to his departure on Tuesday by rail-car, Observer E. Wick, N.Z.R.A.F., who is also a wireless operator, was presented with the usual wallet by the Soldiers’ Farewell Committee who regret' that short notice did not allow of a formal sendoff, Observer Wick, who is wellknown in the district, helped considerably at farewell socials for other soldiers and airmen. Mr and Mrs T. Bennett, of Christchurch, are visiting the district.
