CLOSER RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA

The “Westland Branch” of the “N.Z. Society For Closer Relatians Witn Russia," will conduct a series of public meetings oil the West Coast, commencing on Saturday October 18 at 8 p.m. Full particulars will be published later. The following extract from the opening speech delivered by Professor Gould at the Wellington Town Hall on August 6, explains the main purpose of the meetings. “There is one further point, and I am sorry to mention it, but 1 must. We all remember that group in the community known as appeasers. Hitler’s propaganda is still reaching out to them, trying to make them, in whatever country they maybe, lukewarm about fighting the Nazi’s because it may mean victory for Bolsheyisim. We know of course, that Bolshevisim cannot come in our country) But we do know that the presence of the U.S.S.R. at any council table when peace comes will be to the advantage of the common people of the world. There is then, a definite need to offset Hitler’s propaganda' against Soviet Russia as an

ally. In N.Z. this Society can help to do it.” ' Our West Coast meetings will provide an opportunity for the public to receive first hand information about the Soviet Union and its people.
