LADY GALWAY

Broadcast to Women LEAVING THE DOMINION. AUCKLAND, January 7. “This can only be a very brief message, but it is none the less heartfelt on my part,’’ said Lady Galway in the course of a farewell message which she broadcast to the women of New Zealand. “I shall very soon be. leaving the shores of New Zealand —this country which has been my home for nearly six years,’’ Her Excellency continued, “and I want to thank the women of New Zealand who have shown me much kindness and hospitality wherever I have been.

“Especially would I like to thank those —and I know that they are very many—who have supported the undertaking of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, and who have so staunchly backed up every effort to make it a success. How encouraging the results have been and how great the success, I believe most of my listeners are aware. I hope they will accept this message of deep appreciation for their loyal and most effective support, and also my earnest wish that the good work may go on as long as it is needed. The present indications are that it will be needed for a very long time yet, if the war continues.

“We are, alas, not saying good-bye in the happier circumstances that we had hoped for; but we certainly can say with deep conviction that victory in this war will ultimately be ours, whether it be near or far off, we can show our thankfulness for our escape from the extreme peril in which Britain and all her Empire stood six months ago. I am sure that we,, the women of the Empire, can make a contribution towards the happier and more stable world which we hope to build. “And so,” concluded Her Excellency, “I wish you everything that is best, and say to you au revoir, in the hope and anticipation that some of us may meet again one day.”
