NOVEMBER RECORD. WELLINGTON. January 8. Building permits issued in th e larger centres of the Dominion during November represented a value of £927,424, the highest monthly total registered during the current calendar year. For the previous month and for November, 1939, the value was £761,153 and. £684,879 respectively. The erection of new dwellings accounted for £507,332 of the November total, according to the returns published in the Abstract of Statistics. Other new buildings were valued at £258,653, and alterations to existing buildings at £161,439. The corresponding figures for October were dwellings, £540,971; other new buildings, £74,613; alterations, £145,569.

The November figures included 513 permits for the erection of new dwellings, of which 268 were in respect of houses commenced under the State scheme. In October 524 permits for new dwellings included 236 State homes.
