KUMARA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent! , Marauders have been busy in several vegetable gardens of late. One garden had its entire crop of potatoes lifted before Christmas. In another case the potatoes wer e dug and ready lor bagging when the thieves were disturbed. A senseless trick locally seems to be that of unfastening and opening people’s gates at night, and so opening the way to vegetable gardens for wandering stock. That som G sort of medical sen-ice is sadly needed in Kumara is very apparent of late. Several residents of the town and district are in the Grey and Westland Hospitals, while daily peonle have to travel to Hokitika or Grey for a medical service. The local Medical Committee have for th G past six months been corresponding with the Health Department for a district nurse—but so far without the desired result. Mr. and Mrs. J. Firmin, of Pet one, are visiting Kumara, they having resided here 30 years ago. Mrs. Ws.ll and daughter, of Christchurch, who have been visiting South Westland, passed through Kumara on their return to Christchurch on Wednesday. Mr. Wall was a Kumara old boy of the nineties. .. Mrs. Chant and children have loft for Christchurch for a brief holiday. Mrs. W. Murtha, of Wellington, is visiting relatives in Kumara.
