lOur Own Correspondent! HOKITIKA, January 8. Despite cloudiness in the morning, Ihe days continue to be very warm, this summer being noticeably hotter than last. Mr A. M. Coles, of Che Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of promotion to the Westport branch, and leaves at the end of this week. He i s being succeeded by Mr K. O. Davies, of the Westport branch, who arrives on Saturday. A prohibition order was issued against a resident at the Magistrate’s Court by Messrs A. E. Benjamin and M. H. Houston. J’s.P. yesterday. At the Kanieri Lake regatta this week, the yacht racing proved very interesting, the wind and water beipg very favourable, and a large assemblage enjoyed the contests. The results were as follows: —-Yacht race (one lap of a triangular course to Conical Hill, thence to Sunny Bight, and back to Clubhouse) —Kaimai (R. Elcock) 54min 40sec, 1; Matai (Dr. Aitken) 55min, 2; Kawaka' (J. Howat) 58min 20sec, 3. Second yacht race— Konini (Shaw) 55min, 1; Matai (Dr. Aitken) 61min 50sec, 2; Kawaka and Kaimai disqualified. Third yacht race —Kaimai (Elcock) 50min, 1; Matai (Aitken) 51min 3sec, 2; Konini (Shaw) 51min 4sec, 3. Dinghy racing—Men: E. Howat and C. Preston dead-heat; ladies, Mrs A. Stevenson. 'Girls’ swimming race: N. Paterson 1, J. Staines 2. R. King 3. Nail driving competition: C. Timpson; ladies, Mrs Roberts.
Brigadier-General Meldrum, Area Commander, will attend a parade of the Home Guard to-morrow evening at Arahura Road Hall at Three Mile, when additional recruits will be accepted. The Area Commander has recommended H. L. Dimmick, Koiterangi, and F. Wyatt, Harihari, for the instruction course at Burnham this month. Latest enlistments are:— Waiho-Tatare Section: George Davis, Frederick A. Gibb, Markham C. Lysons. Wataroa-Waitangi Section: William H. Henderson, Tom L. Lowther John Morresey, James P. Nolan, Phillip W. Nolan, Thomas E. Nolan, Clifford J. Routhan, Kevin M. Walsh. Harihari Section: Victoi’ A. Berry, Erie Chisnall, George F. McMillan.
