H.M.S. ACHILLES
TO VISIT MAIN N.Z. PORTS. TO STIMULATE RECRUITING DUNEDIN, March 13. The possibility of H.M.S. Achilles visiting the principal ports of New Zealand was referred to by the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, in an interview this evening. It was naturally desired to have the ship ready for service again as soon as the Minister said, but it was hoped that, before phe resumed her station, time would be found for her to make a tour of the main ports. “The cruiser will be refitting for some time yet,” Mr Jones said today, “but. it is possible that, when that essential work has been completed, she will be able to visit other parts of New Zealand. I am sure the people of Otago, as well as those of other provinces of the Dominion will welcome an opportunity to do honour to the officers and men who acquitted themselves so magnificently in the battie of the Plate. I am confident also that recruiting would receive a substantial stimulus as a result.”
