WORK RESUMED
AUCKLAND WHARVES AH Union Labour Used AUCKLAND, March 13. The call for workers was promptlyanswered on the waterfront, to-day, and by 8.15 a.m. all the available Union labour had been accepted, and .casual workers were being engaged for some of the vessels which had not had their boards computed. Twentv vessels were manned with 1155 unionists, of whom about 600 returned to the jobs from which they were dismissed last week, for refusing to work overtime. Soon after the first call, the cranes were again swinging out, the hatch covers were ofr, and the men were busily employed in loading and _ unload ng cargo. A cheerful atmospheie prevaded the wharves, and the men seemed to be pleased to see the end of the dispute, which had threatened ,to involve themselves and other -workers. Interviewed later to-day, the new controller (Mr R. E. Price) said that work was proceeding smoothly. He had been assured of the co-operation of the ship owners, the Stevedores’ Association, the Harbour Boaid, and the Watersiders’ Union. It is possible that Mr go to Wellington, to-morrow, to continue the discussions with responsible authorities, with a view to completing plans on a Dominion-wide basis.
