MILLERTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent]. The Millerton First Aid classes are being held weekly in the Rechabite Hall, having nearly twenty pupils. Dr. Harkness is giving regular lectures. Mr. W. Smith and Mr. R. Brownlie also give instructions. The Physical Fitness Committeeheld their weekly Whist Tournament in the Rechabite Hall, the prize being won by Mr. E. Morton and the ladies by Mrs. R. McGavin. The committee are screening a, picture programme on September 6th. to raise funds for the swimming baths. Millerton Thistle senior soccer team played Ngakawau on the local domain in the League Championship, and Ngakawau won by a goal to nil. Mr. C. Steele was referee. The local school boys who represented Buller at the Christchurch Soccer tournaments, have returned, viz., Masters R. Sigley, S. Peggie, C. Barnes and F. Moore. Mr. C. Barnes, of Millerton, was manager. Millerton School soccer team travelled to Stockton to play the Stockton boys, who won by four goals to two. Millerton soccer juniors played Denniston on the local domain, the Millerton side winning by a goal to nil. Mrs. J. Harkness, of Millerton, left last week for a holiday at Dunedin. Mr. R. J'ack and Mr. T. Burchfield (President and Secretary of the Millerton Medical Association), attended the recent meeting of the Buller District Associations in Westport. Mrs. J. Paul and children, of Westport, were recent visitors, staying with Mr. and Mrs. W. Clarke. Messrs E, Jones and Dr. Thomas, of Millerton, left last week for the North Island. Mrs. Quinlin, who has been spending a hbliday on the Hill, returned to Dunedin last week. The local mine continues to work full time. Mr. J. Hodgson, of Wellington, is visiting friends on the Hill. Mr. G. Newman, of Westport, was a visitor to Millerton to witness the soccer match between Thistle and Ngakawau. Master J. Lewis, of Sergeant’s Hill, is visiting friends on Millerton.
