REEFTON NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent], REEFTON, September 4. It is currently reported that a well known resident of Waitahu has had a windfall in the shape of a prize of £4OO in a sweepstake. He was unaware of his good fortune until he received a letter from Australia stating that he had been successful. The weather yesterday was very bad, rain falling heavily most of the day, accompanied by a high wind, which made conditions even more unpleasant. To-day the rain has not been as heavy, but the weather still remains very cold. Mrs George Ward, who is in St George’s Hospital, Christchurch, is making a good recovery after her recent operation. The Inangahua Rugby League was unfortunate in the weather for its matches yesterday. As the afternoon advanced heavy cold rain fell and senior matches were not played. In the match between Canterbury and Inangahua under 7stone 71bs teams, the Inangahua team emerged victors by 11 points to 9. This was specially pleasing to Inangahua patrons, as on the previous day the Canterbury team was successful in winning the Norman Cox Cup from West Coast. The match was very even, both sides throwing the ball about in good style. Blackball defeated the Reefton junior team by 8 points to 3 in a match that was abandoned after fifteen minutes of play in the second spell. Both teams gave evidence that brilliant play would be seen on a fine day, and every endeavour will be made to again match these teams. The Grey Valley senior team arrived in Reefton but their match with Waratahs was not played owing to the atrocious weather conditions prevailing.
