Polish officials late last night again stated that Polish troops have crossed the northern Polish frontier as briefly cabled yesterday. They have gone into East Prussia, after driving the Germans from several Polish towns. The Poles claim to have penetrated nine miles into German territory. They broke through the German frontier fortifications as far as the railway terminus at Deutsch Eylau. The Poles have also stemmed the attempt of the Germans to thrust a barrier across the upper part of the Corridor. They drove back the Germans across the border. HITLER'S DEPARTURE FOR FRONT. ' The American Associated Press Danzig correspondent, in his first dispatch since the annexation, describes how flame finally broke the resistance of seventy Poles, who, armed with machine-guns, held the Danzig Post Office in the centre of the city. After vainly assaulting the Post Office, the Germans brought up light artillery, and blew away the front of the building. Then they poured water, with petrol on top of it, into the building, and set it afire.

50 POLES ESCAPE. FROM BURNING DANZIG POST OFFICE. (Received September 5, 1.20 a.m.) DANZIG, September 4. After three days’ incessant bombardment the little Polish garrison still holds Westerplatte. It is estimated that thirty German ’planes dropped over fifty bombs in the fierce battle which is reported in the heart of Danzig for the Post Office building, which seventy Poles stubbornly defended for two days, until the Nazis poured petrol on the roof of the building, setting it afire. Twenty Poles were killed, and the rest were made prisoners.
