REFRESHER COURSE
FOR WEST COAST TEACHERS. Under the direction of the Greymouth branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, a refresher course for teachers will be held at the Grey Main School on May 3,4, and 5 next. The Canterbury Education Board has granted permission for all teachers to attend the course and for the closing of schools, which would otherwise close for the holidays on May 5. Unless teachers are attending the course, they must attend school as usual. The subjects of instruction will be: (1) Modern ideas in history teaching —Mr A. J’. Campbell, M.A., Christchurch Training College. (2) Individual methods of instruction and (treatment of retarded children—Mr |T. B. J. Donnelly, M.A., Normal School, Christchurch. (3) Cane and basket work—Mr H. F. S. Silcock. (4) Physical drill and life saving and drill—third year drill specialists. (5) Dramatisation —Mr L. B. Galbraith. (6) Loom weaving and free art —Mr R. K. Holmes. (7) Choral speaking— Miss E. M. Clark. (8) Project work —group discussions. Teachers are asked to bring with them any easily transportable project material to illustrate the discussion. (9) Teacher problems—group discussions. Mr Service, Senior Inspector, will probably visit the course.
