LEAGUE FOOTBALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE M EET. Mr P. Blanchfield presided at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby League last, evening, when there were present, Messrs A. Kyle, W. Hopkins, J. Kidd, B. Rathbun, J. Anisy, P. Sweetman, A. Fielding, B. Ramsay, and W. Moore (Secretary).

Blackball Qtub applied for the transfer of D. L. Roberts from Ngahere and D. McKane from Brunner Club, and the applications were granted subject to the approval of the clubs concerned.

The New Zealand League advised that Messrs J. E. A. Amos (Canterbury) J. Dodds (West Coast) and C. McElwee (Inangahua) had been appointed South Island selectors. The invitation of the Grey Cycling Club to its annual banquet and dance was accepted with thanks. The application of the Nelson Creek Club for the transfer of A. Lamberton, L. Kane, L. Taafe, and C. Dalziell from Ngahere and their reclassification to junior was granted, subject t 0 the approval of Ngahere Club. The Marist Club’s application for the transfer of A. Quarterman from Rapahoe, and R. Ross from Brunner was granted subject to the approval o? the Clubs concerned. Acknowledging the /'League’s report and balance sheet, the New Zealand League extended its congratulations on the satisfactory results shown. Canterbury forwarded a challenge for the Northern Union Cup, and asked that the match be plaved as the x Canterbury-Coast trial match on June 25. Mr Kidd said that the question was a big one. It meant the loss of one of the best gates of the season and if Canterbury were to be subsidised they would be the only ones to make anything out of it. Mr Rathbun moved that Canterbury be advised that the League was against the proposal to use the trim game as a challenge game for the cup. Mr Kyle said that Canterbury had ignored the Coast and gone to the New Zealand League. The latter should be wrapped over the knuckles for not communicating with the West Coast. Mr Fielding said that Canterbury had evidently only approached the New Zealand League to find their opinion firstly. Mr Kyle: I don’t think the New Zealand Council has ever refused to do anything to which the two Leagues had agreed. They should have written to us in the first place. Mr Kyle seconded the motion which was carried. It was decided to forward the letter also to the New Zealand League, and to advise Canterbury that the challenge would be accepted for another date. “I think its a bit of bluff,” remarked the chairman. The Secretary was instructed to write all clubs with a view to their having two extra jerseys and shorts on tire grounds. It was decided to ask the referees to make an inspection of all players’ boots. Messrs Stokes and Kidd were empowered to carry on with the insurance of players. It was decided to request all clubs to pad goal post before Sunday next. Messrs Stokes, McKane, Harrington and Faris were given full powers to act in raising funds for the league. It was decided to procure a first aid outfit for Wingham Park. The President and Secretary were given full powers regarding advertising. FIXTURES FOR SUNDAY. Seniors: s Marist v.
