ST. COLUMBA CLUB

annual meeting held, Mr P. D. Clancy presided over an attendance of 25 members at the annual meeting of the St. Columba Club last evening. Very Rev. Father J. Long and Rev. Father J. Holohan were also present. The President’s annual' report stated that the Club had experienced a successful year, Club debates having been held with United, and St. Mary s, Hokitika, from whom the Stuart Cup had been won. The Club had been third in the West Coast League’s competitions, and had been well represented at the Easter Conference of Catholic Clubs in Christchurch. The Junior Club had made considerable progress under the direction of the Marist Brothers. Thanks were extended to the clergy for their continued interest and the Marist Brothers for their assistance, also the Press and the executive. The report of the delegate to the Easter Ccnference of Catholic Clubs and Societies was read and adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Mr W. J. Butler; Hon. VicePresident, Rev. Bro. Oswald; Vice-Pre-sidents, Messrs P. D. Clancy, P. Morel, and M. G. Kelly; Secretary, Mr J. Keating; Assistant Secretary, Mr T. Keating; Treasurer, Mr j. I. Mcllroy; Auditor, Mr M. Kelly; Executive, Messrs J. Phillips, L. Phillips, J. Gilbert, C. E. Heaphy, J. W. Raleigh, G. Fogarty, T. O’Farrell; Delegates to West Coast Debating League, Messrs Buti'er and J. Keating. Messrs J. Toomey and J. Vaughan were elected members. It was decided that meetings be held weekly on Wednesdays, and that the subscriptions be 5s for senior members, and 2s 6d for juniors under 18 years. The Executive was recommended to repair the billiard table, and to appoint a custodian. Rev. Father Long, addressing the meeting, referred to the importance

of the year’s work and the fact that the next Conference of the South Island Catholic Clubs would be held at Greymouth. He welcomed the newly-elected executive and assured them' of his hearty co-operation. The desirability of the Club’s work was stressed by Father Long, who appealed to members to attend every meeting, and to take a keen interest in the Club during the coming year.
