DUKE OF KENT
RESIDENCE AT CANBERRA. CANBERRA, November 18,. The announcement that the Duke of Kent has been appointed Gov-ernor-General of Australia and will assume residence at Canberra toward the end of next year has! focused fresh attention upon the national capital. The Duke is the third member of the Royal Family who has been associated with Canberra. His Majesty, when Duke: of York, inaugurated the new capital in 1927, and previous to that; the Duke of Windsor laid the foundation stone of the capital. His Royal Highness will occupy Yarralumla, formefihbmestead of; an early pastoral holding, which faces a most beautiful vista of distant ranges of changing tones of blue. I They are the peaks.; and -ranges of] the Australian Alps, snow-capped in, winter, and the Duke, who is' an enthusiastic skier, will be interested in Mount Franklin, less than 40 miles away, Which is being developed as an Alpine Sports centre.'
