EXPORT FORBIDDEN
AUSTRALIA’S IRON ORE Deposits Limited tAust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.l (Received May 19, 8.40 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 19. Mr. J. A. Lyons, Prime Minister, told the Commonwealth House of Representatives to-day that the Government intended to prohibit the export of Australian iron ore as from July Ist.
Mr. Lyons said that any claims for reimbursement for such expenditure as already has incurred on the exploitation of iron ore for export would be examined and would be dealt witn in an equitable way. The Government, he said, had acted on an expert report to the effect that the accessible iron ore deposits in Australia that were capable of economic development were so limited as to compel their retention for Australia’s own industrial needs.
