VALEDICTORY
REV. W. A. AND MRS. BEAUMONT. The parishioners of St. John’s Church, Ruru, met to farewell Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Beaumont on Sunday evening, a large gathering being present. A wallet of notes in appreciation of his work was handed to Mr. Beaumont by Mr. Perry Feary, Secretary of the Building Committee, on behalf of the Lake Brunner district parishioners. About 120 people gathered in the Druids’ Hall, Blackball, also to farewell Mr. and Mrs. Beaumont. After supper was served, Mr. Arnold Knowles congratulated the guests on their promotion, and expressed regret, on behalf of Blackball residents, at their departure. Mr. George Pattison i representing the Moonlight Church congregation, also expressed good wishes, and handed to Mr. Beaumont a wallet of notes. Messrs Lloyd Elsmore ' (on behalf of the younger members of the Church), Percy James (Presbyterian Church), and a representative of the Blackball Branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association also spoke, paying tributes to his work and extending best wishes for the future. The presentation was made by the Chairman, Mr. Knowles, who asked Mr. Beaumont to accept from the church congregation a smoker’s outfit, and handed to Mrs. Beaumont a leather handbag, also two fountain pens and a box of handkerchiefs for the children, and also presented Mrs. Beaumont with a wool travelling rug.
Occasion was also taken to welcome Mr. K. Bundell.
