PERSONS EMPLOYED
INCREASE IN BRITAIN. [British Official Wireless]. RUGBY, August 9. The Ministry of Labour estimates that at July 26, the number of insured persons in employment in Britain, exclusive of persons within the agricultural scheme, was approximately 11,517,000, or 511,000 more than a year ago. 1 , . ‘ At the same date the number of registered unemployed was 1,379,459, comprising 1,069,180 wholly unemployed, 246,615 temporarily laid off, and 63,664 normally in casual employment, q'lie total, which included 1,074,474 men, 40,392 boys, 221,400 women and 43193 girls, was 22,861 more than at .lune 21, but 272,613 less than a year k'l’he increase on the June total is almost the same as the figure of the 22,042 juveniles registered for the first time on leaving school at the end of the summer term. There was a reduction contrary to the seasonal trend in unemployment in the coal mining industry. An analysis shows that 575,000, or 4G per cent, of the total of the registered unemployed, have been without work for less than six weeks.
