COWIE GETS WICKETS Weir’s Half Century (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) CHELMSFORD, August 10. Cowie, bowling with good pace and considerable life enabled the tourists to dismiss the last six County batsmen before lunch. The fast bowler’s morning figures were eighteen overs, five maidens, thirty-one tuns four wickets. Page and Lamason took good catches in the slips. New Zealand lost four wickets quickly, but won easily. Nichols again bowled as well as any fast medium bowler met on the tour. Smith was troublesome with the new ball. Evans took two wickets in the first over. Wallace batted for nearly an hour. Weir played an excellent innings, driving strongly and placing the ball well on the leg side. His half century took seventy-five minutes. He hit six fours. The fifth and sixth wickets fell in quick succession but the tourists achieved the fifth first-class success without further trouble.
