WRESTLING

BLOMFIELD v. WESTCOATT. [Per Press Association], PALMERSTON NORTH, August 4. Lofty Blomfield beat Rusty' Westcoatt, wrestling here to-night, before a packed house. Westcoatt secured a fall in the fourth round with a body press, following a flying tackle and a drop-kick. Westcoatt attempted another flying tackle at the start of the sixth round, going clean through the ropes and partially dislocating a shoulder. The American returned to the ring and wrestled on in pain for a couple of minutes, when Blomfield trapped him into an octopus clamp. Westcoatt immediately submitted. During the interval before the seventh round a doctor examined the American’s shoulder, and on his advice, the contest was discontinued. Blomfield being declared the winner.

TO-MORROW NIGHT’S CONTEST. Earl McCready, who has suffered only one defeat In several seasons’ wrestling in New Zealand, will oe seen in the Greymouth Town Hall tomorrow night, when he will meet John Spellman, over eight ten-minute rounds. McCready is probably one of the greatest wrestlers, who have appeared in the Dominion, and his clean style, always attractive, has won him great popularity. He is a master of all the holds, very fast, especially on the mat, for a man of his size and weight (17st.), and if the other fellow decides to make it tough, McCready can go with the best of them. John Spellman, who weighs 15 st. 12 lbs., is a skilful wrestler, wonderfully' fast, and ideally suited by McCready’s style. Spellman is one of the cleverest in the present team of Americans, and he can be depended upon to keep McCready busy. Spellman uses flying tackles and elbow jolts, which nave won bouts for him this season.
