(Ou r Own Correspondent). REEFTON. October 21. Mrs Talbot,, formerly a well-known resident of Reefton., is at. present in Reefiton, and is the guest of Mrs S. Austin. The examination of candidates for mine managers’ and battery managers’ certificato.s is being held at the Schoo l ] of Mines, under the supervisor. There wa<} a slight frost in Reef ton this morning after a gloriously lino night, bult it was not severe enough to do any damage. To-day, the weather was all that coulcT be desired.
An enjoyable party was held, in Knox Church Hall last evening to celebrate the coining of age of Mr James McKinkiy, of the Alines Department, Reefton. Air and Airs 11. Campbell wore the ho.“)t and hostess, and thirty young people were present. After several items and competitions the guests .slat clown to a. bountiful supper. Mr Campbell proposed the health of the guest, anq Air Seaton added a fclw remarks, and the toast was, given with appropriate honours, and tliej usual key was presented. Mr AfcKinlay thanked infll' for their kindness to him since he came to- live in Reefton, especially Air and Mrs Campbell for the great trouble they had gone to on his beha'f. A special birthday cake, made by the mother of the guest and sent from Lawrence for the occasion, was cut and distributed by Air AfcKinlay. The opportunity was taken to offer eongra.tillations to AL Wood and Boughton, also Miss H. Watson and Air H. Evans, on their receipt engagements. The gentlemen Suitably responded. Thtoast of the ladles was proposed by Air Ilaigh, and replied to by Air Thompson. Items avere given by Airs Seaton, Aliss L. Burns, and Air Campbell, and community singing was held Mrs Campbell and Aliss M. Lawn were the accompanists. The toast of the host, hostess, and their family was given by Air Ha/gh, and responded to by Air Campbell. At .meeting of the Reiffton Fire Brigade, it was resolved to grant Fireman S. Newcombe throe months' leave. A .special meeting will be held on Tuesday next. The correspondence was read and approved, and in,ward correspondence received and dealt with. It was moved that the delegate for this- brigade .support, the senior vice-president, and that if be left to the- discretion of the delegate re voting for the -vice-presidents. It was decided that a letter lie sent to the i Council recommending that they procure two smoke helmets for this brigade. It was resolved that all exfiremen be invited to the smoko concert, also Messrs IT. Crumpton, J. Cooper, A. Golding, F. Seawright, W. Archer, M. FAnneV, B. Baird vi.n ( ] Hamill.
