Dickson and Mrs Butterfield and family, left by rail-car on Monday evening, on a visit to Chii.-t church. Miss P. Steele left by Saturday s express on r eturn to Wellington, after spending a holiday w.th his parents. The monthly meeting of the Brunner Women’s Institute was held on October 15th, Miss A. Smeaton presiding over a good attendance. Final arrangements were made for the biri.iday. which is to be held on October 30th, and is to take the form of a social and dance, plain and fancy dress. The motto for the evening was: “Do unto others as you would thej 0 unto you;” The roll call, “paper-hang-ing hints,” was well responded to. A dainty supper was served by Mesdame.Bennie, Kerr, Hopkins and Devlin. At -a meeting of the Brunner Amateur Athletic Club, it was decided to hold a boxing tournament on October 31st. A special bout of four rounds will he staged by T. Hoggarth (Wallsend), and F- Thurlow (Westport). The President of the Club stated that the Waiuta Club are nominating twent><even. Reef ton eight, Westport five. It was decided that the tournament -liould commence at 7 p.m.. so as o act through all the bouts. The- pro_ v.eeds of the tournament are to be used for procuring a now gymnasium. M’ss Jean Dando has left on an ,-K-tende.d holiday to Mrs C. Bateman, of Taylorville, ha. left for Christchurch on holiday. Mrs P. G. Low, of Dobson, left this morning for Christchurch, where she, enterc Lewisham Hospital. Mrs E. Hili', of Dobson returned last evening from a v'.sit to Chii-t-Miss L. Smeaton,. of Wellington, is on*a holiday visit to her relatives at Mrs R. Le Cron, of Taj’lorvillo, wh ha s been an inmate of the Grey Hospitall;, was discharged yesterday. , Tavlorville School Committee he-< their" weekly whist drive in the school on Monday" night. The winners were: Mrs W Chetwvnd 1. Mr T. Nimmo - Mr and Mrs R. Steel, Taylorville entertained a number of friends at their home- in TaylorvWe on Saturday night, in honour of th e coming of-agei of their daughter, Phylhs.
