Opening of Season COBDEN CLUB. Fair weather favoured the opening of the Cobden Tennis Club's siason on Sunday when over th.rty members and friends were present. The season was declared open by the club President (Mr. A. L. Abbie) who expressed thanks to those members who mid assisted to put the courts into order. He welcomed the new members, and expressed the opinion that tue Club would have a most successful seasoi, Loth from the playing and social viewpoints. Afternoon tea was sewed by the ladies, and friendly matches were played. REEFTON CLUB. The Reefton T'.nnis Club held its opening on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. Amongst the verylarge gathering were representatives of other clubs, in the district. Mr. J. B. Auld President, declared the season open and wished the Club success. The ladies served afternoon tea. A match took place between team selected by the .'President and A ice Pres 1 - dent. IKAMATUA CLUB. The opening of the Ikamatua Tenuis Club’s courts took place on Sunday in fine but dull weather there being e. good number of members present The President, Mr. L. O’Malley, gave a hearty welcome to both old and uew new members, and' apologised for the absence of the Patron, Mr. AA. O Malley. He stated that there were several improvements required, including a pavilion and the laying down of another court, and he hoped that sufficient support would be forthcoming to have the necessary works carried out. He also took the opportunity of presenting fhe Cup donated by Air. P J. Ei'zgenald’ to the last years winners, Messrs H. C. Cullen and J. Fitzgerald, and thanked Mr. Fitzgerald tor the sporting spirit he "had shown to the club. After the President’s wuo played the first ball. Mr. O’Malley declared' the season opened, and hoped itwould be successful. Games were played during the afternoon, the ladies providing afternoon tea OPENING POSTPONED. Unfavourable weather the week delayed the opening of rhe La-t--ed Club’s courts, and this has now been postponed until October 31.
