The weather report and forecast are as follows:— General situation: A shallow depression is located north of the North Island, while a series of intense westerly depressions is advancing across the South Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds north-westerly at first in the for north; otherwise nortlierly to north-wosterly winds prevailing; moderate to strong generally, and of gale force at many places south of New. Plymouth and C’astlepoint. Seas in New Zealand waters: Rough north of East Cape, and becoming rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and l-’oveaux Stnaits; elsewhere, slight to moderate, but later rising off shore south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate easterly winds, changing to freshening northerlies in the far northern portion, with moderate, but rising seas; elsewhere, strong northerly to north-wesr-erlv winds to gales, and rough seas._ Weather: Cloudy to overcast, with further scatteed rain in the Auckland province, and' unsettled, squally eomli •tions, ami rain developing soon in .i'l the western -areas, and the far south, with some heavy falls in Westlaml. Mainly fair In eastern districts, but later scattered rains are probable there also. Temperatures mild.
