The rejoicing culminated in a triumphal welcome to Premier Nahas Pasha, when he was en route for Cairo from Alexandria. The Premier’s decorated train stopped at Toukh, thirty miles north of Cairo. It was immediately surrounded by enthusiastically cheering throngs. Into the crowds an express train from Cairo ploughed at full speed before the driver was able to apply the brakes. Thirteen persons were , killed and five were injured. Many of the crowd attempted to lynch the driver, whom the police protected.
