British Reply to Russia
NOT A MATTER, FOR THE COMMITTEE. (Received October 15, nt 9.40 p.m.) LONDON, October 14. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent, says: Lord Plymouth has already handed to M. Maisky the British reply to the Soviet Note. This reply is understood to point out that Portugal has not yet replied to a request for explanations concerning the allegations made as to a violation of the agreement. The Soviet Note contained no additional evidence as to violation, so Lord Plymouth did not think that it would be proper to summon a further meeting of the Non-Intervention Committee at this stage. It is believed that Lord Plymouth informed M. Maisky that the Soviet’s proposal for control could not be submitted' to the Non-Intervention Committee, as such suggestions should be addressed to the British and French Governments, through the normal diplomatic channels. It is understood that England and France are in complete agreement with this attitude.
