STOCKTON NOTES
(Out- Own Correspondent.) The Stockton mine worked 4 shifts for the week ending October 9th, making a total of seven shifts for the fortnight. The mine was idle on 'Monday and Tuesday this week but will probably work to-day, when the men will start in the now cavil The weather prevailing in Stockton for the past few months will be recorded as the worst weather for this season of the year Stockton has ever experienced, for years, being more like mid-winter than summer. It is understood that a committee is being formed .for the children’s Labour Day sports and we hope the ptil’lic wit] do their share finauciallv and otherwise, to help the committee to make it a success for the kiddies. The ('hil'lren’.s Fancy Dress Ball proved a ■great .success and the public appreciate the good work done by the School committee, and their helpers. The name of Miss P. Shearer was omitted from the list of lady helpers at the Fancy Dress Ball. Now that the football season, is over, the local Tenuis enthusiasts are making preparations for their favourite pastime, but, the weather conditions nrc sadly against, them and unless an improvement takes place, the lo<-i,i Club will lie rat her late in opening.
