PUBLIC SERVICE
POSTMASTER-GENERAL’ S ADDRESSS. WELLINGTON, October 13. The annual conference of the Public Service Association has opened. The. Minister (Mr. Jones) said that the Government hoped, so far as possible, to introduce the 40-hour week in the Public Service, but if. had to be recognised that there were cases where that would be impossible, lie asked the delegates to consider the position of the Government, when discussing their requirements. Next year, the Government had to spend an extra two millions on pensions, and publie servants should remember that the Government’s housing scheme would be of advantage- to them, as well as to the general public. The Government hoped to provide national superannuation and national health schemes, and the letter would also be of assistance to public servants.
