WAR VETERAN
FUTILE QUEST FOR A PENSION. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON October 13. Lieutenant John Holnes, a seventyon<( years old relief worker, of Cambridge, arrived in Welington to-day, after cycling four hundred miles from his home in the hope that he would bo al./e to arrange for a war pension. His moss : on was unfuccqssful, because of the laws of the land. Air Holmes is quite uniistressed, and. fully appree’ating the position,-, intends pedaling his way back home agafn. lie left Cambridge last Friday wqek, and averaged ferty miles each day of actual! travelling. Although ho is a veteran of several wars, and gave valuable service to thc Defence Department in the Grei.t War, he in ineligible for a war pension, because he at no time went overseas with New Zealand forces.
