RAILWAY INQUIRY
The Tunnel Accident (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 1. A departmental inquiry into the railway accident at Poro-o-Taroa on Tuesday, when the driver and fireman of a train were apparently overcome by smoke and fumes in the tunnel, has been held by Messrs. G. T. Wilson (traffic superintendent), P. R. Angus (locomotive superintendent), and H. C. Lusty (inspecting engineer), who will report to the General Manager of Railways, Mr. G. 11. Mackley, who will then present the evidence and finding for the consideration of the Railways Board. The inquiry board visited Poro-o-Taroa to inspect the scene of the derailment, and took evidence from all concerned in the happening at Taumarunui. It is expected that the report will be forwarded to headquarters to-morrow or Saturday, and it will be considered at next meeting of the board.
