SUBMARINE SUNK 55 Lives Lost (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) MOSCOW, August 1. The entire crow of fifty-five were drowned when the Soviet submarine sank, following a- collision during manoeuvres in the Gulf of Finland. The Soviet issued a decree that £lOOO would be given to each of tlip victims ’ families The victims include seven naval cadets from Leningrad military academy. The remainder arc Red men. They will be given a State funeral when the vessel is raised. Submarine B 3 was participating in the Soviet Baltic Fleet’s annual manoeuvres, and was actually submerged when struck by another vessel. It sank immediately. Rescue work proved impossible. The disaster occurred on July 25, and has only just been revealed. AN OLD TYPE OF SUBMARINE. (Received August 1 at 11 p.m.) MOSCOW. July 31.
