CHRISTCHURCH, June 12.

Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, professor of Agricultural Botany at Lincoln College, tendered his resignation to the Lincoln College Board of Govern ors at its meeting. The resignation is to take effect at the end of the year.

Dr. Hilgendorf was born in Otago in 1874 and was .educated at Otago Boys’ High School, Otago University, and Auckland University College. lie graduated ALA. with first-class honours in 1897 and D.Sc. in 1905 and was later elected a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute. After holding positions on the staffs of the Boys’ High School, Invercargill, and Prince Albert College, Auckland, Dr. Hilgendorf came to Lincoln College in 1899. At Lincoln College Dr. Hilgendorf specialised in plant breeding. He was appointed director of the Wheat Research Institute in 1928 and has served as president of the Canterbury Philosophical Institute and on the board of governors of the New Zealand Institute. Among his publications are: t “Pastures of New Zealand” and 11Farmers’ Foes in New Zealand.”

It is understood that Dr Hilgendorf will concentrate more on the scientific side of wheat research at the Wheat Research Institute at Christchurch.
