HOSPITAL INSPECTION

INTERESTING VISIT By Borough Council A visit of inspection was yesterday afternoon made to the Grey Hospital, by members of the Grey mouth Borough Council, comprising Ihe Mayor (Mr W. Meldrum), Councillors J. McGinley, A. M. Carrol 1. G. R. Harken C. Neville, and A. 11. Paterson and the Town Olerk (Air F. 11. Denton). Upon arrival at the institutioni, the Councillor* were met by the Alatron (Miss Sullivan) the Atedical Superintendent (Dr. J. W. Bridgman) the. Chairman (Air R. McTaggart) and the Managing-Secret-ary (Air J. E. A. McKeefry).

Chairman for his words of welcome. He said they did not come to look for faults, but with quite open minds to set Ihow things* were progressing. When they saw that all that was possible was being done, they would be quite ready to stand up for the Board and its officers outside. After a dainty afternoon tea, served "by the Alatron and Sisters, the visitors proceeded to the various wards, departments and kitchen block. The visitors expressed great satisfaction at the progress of the institution in latter years, also the very evident cfleanliness and the efficiency of the. staff. Renovations*, painting, etc., are being carried out by degrees, practically throughout the institution.

The Chairman pointed out the muchneeded revision and alterations necessary for the kitchen block, which work, it is hoped shortly to accomplish and thereby afford improved efficiency and service, with the minimum of de lay. The. Chairman also explained that all o.f the table poultry required was being raised at the institution at practically no cost; the cockerels being hcught Cheaply and fed with the refuse from the Hospital. A visit was also paid to the Nurses’ Home., where additions to the diningroom and sitting-room are being effected, whilst it is proposed to construct later a wing on the south end of the building to provide sleeping accommodation for forty nurses as quite a number of the staff at present have their sleeping quarters at the hospital. The work, constructing a matron’s cottage in brick and concrete is also proceeding at the northern end of tihe Nurses’ Home, and is nearing completion.
