IN ABYSSINIA Italy’s Anxiety (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) ROME, May 7. Mussolini has ordered the mobilisation of additional troops. The official announcement says:— * * Owing to the large supplies of arms sent to Addis Ababa by several European factories, the Abyssinian mobilisation measures and recent speech of the Emperor, precautionary measures must be taken to guarantee the security of our East African Colonies.” Italy therefore has mobilised one army and two militia divisions. The order adds many thousands to those already on a war footing. The Under Secretary of War, stated in March that within a month there would be six hundred thousand men with the colours. (Received May 8, at 10 p.m.) ROME, May 8. Doctor Lessona, the Under Secretary in the Colonies, explained to the Chamber of Deputies Italy’s mobilisation measures. He referred to “the barbarbous conditions in Abyssinia. ’ He declared: “It is not right that such a slave-owning country should rule other tribes.” The officials say that Abyssinia is entirely out of hand. Iler Government is unable to control the people’s actions.. The officials instance various incidents, including that of an Italian soldier, who was killed at C’ozula. German Planes SUPPLIED TO ABYSSINIA. (Received May 8, at 10 p.m.) (“Times” Cable.) LONDON, May 8. “The Times’s” Rome correspondent says that it is -officially stated: “Foreign observers bear testimony to the effect that Germany is supplying Abyssinia with aeroplanes and there are German and Japanese military instructors engaged there in increasing numbers.’’
