BOXING
INTER-PROVINCIAL CONTESTS There was a good crowd present at the inter-provincial amateur boxing contest between Marlborough and West Coast, boxers at the Reefton Gymnasium Hall on Wednesday evening. The tournament from a boxing viewpoint was highly successful. West Coast had four wins to Marlborough’s one, whilst one match was drawn. There were two other contests between Reefton and Westport boys and an exhibition between two Reefton paperweights pleased the crowd by their willing display, and coins totalling almost £1 were showered itno the ring at the con-
clusion. The best contest of the evening was between M. Howson and R. Morrigan, who fought a draw, after *i willing battle. Rev. Father Spring’s trophy for the best boxer was awarded to C. Matheson (Westport). The return match will in all probability take place at Blenheim on the night, of. the West Coast-Marlborough Seddon Shield match. Results:—

Page (M) 10.9; Gray (Westport) 7.3 beat Thurlow (Westport) 7.3; Exhibition bout: J. McKane (Reefton) 4.4 and E. Newcombe (Reefton) 4.8, draw; P. Zampesi (W.C.) 9.1 beat Lane (Al.) 9.7; Ellsmore (Al) 10.0 beat. A. Cox (W.C.) 10.0; Al. Howson (W.C.) 11.5 drew with R. Morrigan (Al.) 10.8.
