REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, March 21. An accident occurred at the Big River mine, on Tuesday, Mr R. W ildermoth, sustaining injuries that. will prevent him working for a few days. I'he .handle of a windlass flew off, striking him on the bridge of the nose, ami inflicting severe cuts. He came to Reeftun for medical attention and several stitches were necessary, to close the wounds.

Mr A. Griffen returned to Reef ton to-day with the t'hree-year-old racehorse Delimit, which has been purchased. by a Imiul resident. The gelding is a good looking dark chestnut and not by any means a small horse, and is in very goud condition indeed. He has won one race, the Novice Stakes at Carterton on November 17th last, and should be useful on the \\ est Coast.

Mr E. Gilman, a former resident of Reefton, and now proprietor <of a hotel in Canterbury, is on a visit to Reef ton and renewing old acquaintanceships.

Mr Harry Coulsoif, an employee at the .Blackwater mines at Waiuta, sustained an -injury to his eye through being struck by a piece of quartz, lie is remaining at Reefton Hospital for a few days for observation.

Mr J. Smith, of Waiuta, who has been a patients at the hospital for some weeks, left to-day for his home. It is reported that the Waiuta Hotel has been disposed -of to a Canterbury buyer. The price is stated to be £7OUO.

At a meeting of the committee of the Reef ton Jockey Club it was resolved to present a lamb to the Inangahua A. and !’• Association. Reefton Rugby League Centre requested use of the footoall ground on the same terms as before. It was decided to deter consideration of the application until the next monthly meeting. Owing to the Borough and County Council elections taking place on the same day as the Club’s autumn meeting (May 1) it was decided to make an endeavour to have the departure of the train from Grey mouth on that morning delayed ha if an hour, so that electors could vote before leaving Greymouth.
